Hypnotherapy For Trauma & PTSD

If trauma or PTSD symptoms are affecting your sleep, your sense of safety, or your day-to-day life, hypnotherapy can offer support alongside your recovery.

At The Hypnosis Clinic, I want to be completely clear from the outset: the recommended first-line treatments for PTSD and complex PTSD are trauma-focused psychological therapies — specifically trauma-focused CBT and EMDR, delivered by clinicians trained specifically in trauma work — sometimes alongside medication. Hypnotherapy is not a substitute for this specialist care, and it isn’t the right setting for processing traumatic memories directly.

Where it can genuinely help is in supporting the nervous system regulation, sleep and sense of safety that trauma so often disrupts, alongside your proper trauma treatment.

If you’re in crisis, having thoughts of harming yourself, or don’t feel safe right now, please call the Samaritans free on 116 123, or 999 in an emergency. PTSD UK also offers a helpline on 0808 801 0818 for people aged 16 and over, with support via text on 07860 022 956.

Hypnosis can help you find an easier way to make the changes you want, alongside the care that’s right for you. We work together as a team; hypnotist and client, to find the most effective route to feeling safer and calmer, day to day.

Today could be the start of some extra support alongside your recovery.

About Jonathan Garside, Hypnotherapist in London

Hello, I’m Jonathan Garside. To find out more about how hypnotherapy can support you alongside trauma-focused treatment, book an appointment.

We work with clients managing the after-effects of trauma and PTSD, from hypervigilance and flashbacks, to sleep disruption and a sense of feeling permanently unsafe. I don’t use hypnotherapy to explore or process traumatic memories directly — that work belongs with a properly trained trauma specialist. What I can offer sits around that core treatment: practical, stabilising support for the nervous system and daily life.

At your initial free consultation, you can ask all the questions you want about how hypnotherapy can help you, and it gives us the opportunity to talk about where you are in your recovery and what treatment you’re already receiving. Sessions are always paced entirely around what feels safe for you. If you haven’t yet been assessed or started trauma-focused treatment, I’ll always encourage that as the essential first step.

Generally, I see most people for 2-4 sessions and the cost is £250 per one hour session. However, that reduces to £225 per hour when you buy a package of four sessions, saving you £100.

PTSD develops in around 1 in 5 people following a traumatic event, and it’s frequently under-recognised in primary care. Complex PTSD, which can follow prolonged or repeated trauma, particularly in childhood, presents differently again and needs specialist input in its own right. It’s genuinely never too late to seek help — PTSD and complex PTSD can be successfully treated years, even decades, after the trauma occurred.

The right first step is your GP, who can refer you for a proper assessment and access to trauma-focused CBT or EMDR through NHS talking therapies or specialist services. PTSD UK is an excellent charity offering information on PTSD and complex PTSD, treatment options, and how to find help. Hypnotherapy can be a valuable part of your wider recovery once you’re connected with the right specialist care — always alongside it, never instead of it.

We understand that trauma and its after-effects show up differently for everyone; what helps one person feel safer may look quite different for you. That’s why the support we offer is unique to you, and always works alongside your specialist trauma care.

It’s just one of the reasons that makes us different: we take time to listen, at a pace that feels safe for you, and find out what would genuinely help your day-to-day life feel steadier.

From here, we progress, step-by-step, alongside your trauma-focused treatment, to find and build the calm and safety for you to feel more steady in your daily life. For now, and the rest of your longer, happier, healthier life.
