Hypnotherapy For Performance Anxiety

If nerves undo weeks of preparation in seconds, hypnosis can help you walk in calm, focused, and ready.

At The Hypnosis Clinic, performance anxiety — in all its forms — is one of the most common reasons clients come to see me, and it’s also one of the areas where hypnotherapy has a genuinely strong track record.

Whether it’s the moment before you walk on stage, stand up to present, step onto the pitch, or sit down for a big exam, a racing heart, shaky hands or a mind that suddenly goes blank can feel like your own body is working against you at exactly the wrong moment.

Performance anxiety is your nervous system’s threat response firing in a situation that isn’t actually dangerous, and it’s exactly the kind of learned, automatic response hypnotherapy is well suited to working with directly.

Today could be the start of performing at your best.

About Jonathan Garside, Hypnotherapist in London

Hello, I’m Jonathan Garside. To find out more about how hypnotherapy for performance anxiety can support you, book an appointment.

We work with clients managing every kind of performance-related anxiety, from public speaking and presentations, to sport, music and performing arts, interviews and other high-pressure situations. Whatever the stage looks like for you, we can help your body stop working against you.

At your initial free consultation, you can ask all the questions you want about how hypnotherapy can help you, and it gives us the opportunity to find out more about your goals and to plan a strategy that works. Many clients see meaningful change in just two to four sessions, particularly when there’s a specific event to prepare for.

Generally, I see most people for 2-4 sessions and the cost is £250 per one hour session. However, that reduces to £225 per hour when you buy a package of four sessions, saving you £100.

If you’d like some further reading on performance anxiety, have a look at our blog.

Fear of public speaking, or glossophobia, is estimated to affect as many as 70% of people to some degree, and research on social and performance anxiety puts the figure experiencing meaningful performance-related fear at somewhere between 14% and 25% of the general population. It affects people at every level, too — well-known performers including opera singers and stadium-filling musicians have spoken openly about battling stage fright throughout their careers.

The British Medical Association has recognised hypnotherapy as an effective approach for anxiety-related conditions, and performance anxiety — being fundamentally about the body’s stress response getting triggered at the wrong moment — responds particularly well to it.

We understand that performance anxiety shows up differently depending on the stage — a boardroom, an exam hall, a pitch, a stadium. That’s why the support we offer is unique to you and the specific situation you’re preparing for.

It’s just one of the reasons that makes us different: we take time to listen and find out exactly what’s at stake for you, and build a programme of visualisation and confidence work around that specific moment.

From here, we progress, step-by-step, through hypnotherapy for performance anxiety, to find and build the calm and confidence for you to walk in ready, whatever the stage. For now, and the rest of your longer, happier, healthier life.

Of course, this may be all new to you, so have a look at some of the comments other people have been kind enough to write below.
